LOS ANGELES — Let the red carpet games begin. Nominations for the 84th Academy Awards were revealed this morning, forcing most of Hollywood up before dawn. There were few surprises among the chosen; Meryl Streep, Michelle Williams and Viola Davis have been regular names on the awards ballots all season, as were George Clooney and Jean Dujardin in the lead acting categories. But there are also newcomers among the veterans, with Rooney Mara, Bérénice Bejo and Jessica Chastain among the young actresses causing a fashion frisson. Not only will the ceremony, to be broadcast Feb. 26 on ABC, crown Hollywood royalty, but designers and actresses could also ascend in the fashion ranks, if the stars align.
